Book Bag Days are Monday, Wednesday and Friday. More information can be found in the front of the children’s reading diaries.
Homework
Your child will bring their homework home every Monday and should return it the following Monday. This will usually alternate between maths and English/grammar (SPAG). Homework may be used to support other areas of the curriculum too. We politely request that parents mark the work with their child so that any misconceptions can be addressed when returned to school. If they are struggling with any aspects please just write a note on the homework.
Spellings
Spellings will be tested each week on Monday and the new list will be given out following the weekly test. A spelling book will also be sent home with the spellings in.

Friday 27 February 2026 Skylarks/KS1 Muddy Puddles Day - Spring Term KS1 had a fantastic Muddy Puddles day this week. The weather was mixed - some dry spells and some rain which meant that the day lived up to its name! The children had a fantastic time shelter building, exploring flowering plants and completing an interesting workshop based on 'The Great Fire of London' led by Alfresco Learning.

Tuesday 24 February 2026 Science - Animals including Humans - Y2 unit To begin our new science unit - Animals including Humans Y2 - Skylarks completed a ‘unit-readiness' activity where they explored what they already knew and revisited key concepts from previous learning. The children had great discussions around each question and were able to confidently share their knowledge with each other. We talked through their answers on the carpet and addressed any misconceptions.

Friday 13 February 2026 Problem Solving in Maths - Finding Rules and Patterns In maths, our problem solving focus for this half-term is ‘Finding Rules and Patterns.' See our photos below, where we are practising this skill when answering different questions. Great work, Skylarks!

Friday 13 February 2026 Our Senses Investigation As part of our science learning, we discussed what we already knew about the 5 senses and identified which body part we use for each sense. We then completed an investigation to see how good our senses were. Which is tastier - chocolate or lemon?! See if you can work out our answers by looking at our photos below!

Friday 13 February 2026 Mixed Addition and Subtraction - Y2 In maths, Year 2 have been learning column addition and column subtraction. Today, we continued to practise mixed column addition and subtraction, including using the inverse operation to work out missing number problems. Well done, Year 2!

Monday 9 February 2026 Counting Forwards and Backwards within 20 - Y1 In maths, Year 1 have been counting, reading and writing numbers to 20. We have played counting games, sang songs and completed number tracks to help our understanding of counting forwards and backwards. We have been working really hard to make sure that our numbers are formed correctly. Well done, Year 1!

Wednesday 4 February 2026 Skylarks Make Jam Sandwiches! As part of our writing unit (instructions), Skylarks have made jam sandwiches. As we went along, we practised different steps and learnt that each step needed to be clear and precise.

Friday 23 January 2026 Problem Solving in Maths - Drawing a Picture In maths, our problem solving focus for last half-term was ‘Drawing a Picture'. We have been learning how pictures can help us to visualise different mathematical problems. See our photos below, where we are practising this skill to help us to answer different questions. Thursday 22 January 2026 Skylarks First Moon Landing Over the last few weeks, Skylarks class have been learning about the events of the First Moon Landing. To bring our learning to life, the children took their own steps on the moon's surface through role play. We used flour to imitate the surface of the moon and as the children stepped onto it, they said Neil Armstrong's famous words - "that's one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind." The children took their roles very seriously (as did Mr Broadley) and said his famous words with great enthusiasm. We discussed how Neil Armstrong's footprints are still on the moon today as there is no wind on the moon. The children thoroughly enjoyed this fun (and slightly messy) experience!

Tuesday 6 January 2026 Comparing Animals in Science In Science, Skylarks have been learning about different animals from each of the main vertebrae groups (mammal, fish, bird, amphibian, reptile.) Using close observations, they described and compared different animals and then, working in groups, they grouped the animals based on their key features. Great knowledge, Skylarks!

Tuesday 6 January 2026 Year 2 - Addition and Subtraction In maths, Year 2 have been adding and subtracting numbers to 100. Today, the children used equipment to explain why addition is commutative but subtraction is not. They worked really well in groups and all worked very hard. Well done, Year 2!

Wednesday 17 December 2025 Exit Point - Fashion Show KS1 Today we concluded our fantastic 'All Dressed Up' topic with a fashion show in front of the whole school. KS1 have been working incredibly hard this half term, designing, making and evaluating their own T-shirts. They've learnt lots of techniques including sewing, gluing, safety pinning, stapling, coiling, stamping and fringing. Today, the children were incredibly proud to showcase their fantastic creations and demonstrated great confidence on our very own 'Tranmere Catwalk!' Great work KS1!

Wednesday 17 December 2025 KS1 Christmas Party This week has seen the return of the fabulous KS1 Christmas Party. The children had a fantastic time with party games, dancing, singing and party food.
