Red Kites Try to Find Chocolate Melting Points

In science, Red Kites tried to find the melting points for three different types of chocolate: milk chocolate, dark chocolate and white chocolate. We ensured that it was a fair test by using the same amount of chocolate each time and using water at the same temperature for all three.

During our first attempt, we used water at 30 degrees (as suggested) and waited, and waited….

None of the chocolate melted.

We tried again using much hotter water. This time we did notice some change in the chocolate. It started to melt at the edges but in spite of waiting for a long time, we didn’t notice any type chocolate melting faster than another.
We decided to do some research and discovered that dark chocolate is the slowest to melt because it has more cocoa in it. The high amount of fat and sugar in milk and white chocolate help them to melt quicker.

We didn’t get the results we hoped for but we learnt something new and had fun trying.
