At Tranmere Park, we believe history comes alive through hands-on experiences and meaningful learning beyond the classroom. Our enrichment opportunities include exciting trips, inspiring workshops and visits from knowledgeable volunteers.
Have a look at some of the fantastic history enrichment experiences that we've taken part in so far this year.
Remembrance Day
The children in KS1 have been learning about Remembrance Day. They have learnt that WW1 began a long time before they were born. It began over 100 years ago in 1914 and lasted 4 years, finishing in 1918. The war ended at exactly 11am on 11th November when both sides stopped fighting and called a truce.
Many millions of soldiers lost their lives in that time, including those from the British Empire. After the war, people remember those who lost their lives every year on November 11th. This is called Remembrance Day.
People often wear poppies to commemorate those who lost their lives. After the war, poppies grew on the battlefields so they have come to serve as a symbol of remembrance.
The children enjoyed creating their own poppy using paper plates. We will remember them.

LKS2 Scavengers and Settlers Muddle Puddle Day
To introduce their Scavengers and Settlers topic, LKS2 took part in a Muddy Puddle Day. Pupils rotated through four activities—shelter building, fire making, a scavenger hunt, and 'talking pictures'—to explore how early hunter-gatherers met their basic needs. The day provided a hands-on introduction to life in prehistoric times and what it meant to live as a hunter-gatherer.

Y1 Trip to Kirkstall Abbey Museum - Toys
KS1 visited Kirkstall Abbey Museum to learn about toys from the past. Pupils explored historical toys, discovered how they were made and used and compared them to the toys they play with today. The visit helped to deepen their understanding of changes over time and everyday life in the past.
